If you are an athlete, you are most likely to recognize the term ‘Plantar Fasciitis’, which is an adverse condition of the feet, involving a lot of pain and discomfort. In Plantar Fasciitis, the ligament underneath your feet suffers from tiny wears that grow over the time, causing excessive pain and inability to walk, let alone run. The pain is often worse first thing in the morning upon waking.

Plantar fasciitis can be caused by an injury, or even excessive exercise and stress on the feet of an individual. Some may get this condition by wearing improper shoes for a long period of time, standing for long hours, or even arthritis. However, once the pain begins and worsens, it becomes impossible for the person to indulge in any kind of footwork without treating the condition.

Chiropractic Treatment for Plantar Fasciitis

In many cases, chiropractic treatment like, the Graston technique, is recommended for a patient, suffering from Plantar Fasciitis. Graston technique is highly popular among the athletes all over the world because of its inherent non-invasiveness and of course, its efficiency in treating conditions like the Plantar Fasciitis.

As a  sports chiropractor, I use small stainless steel instruments, specifically designed with beveled edges, to apply targeted pressure on the injured ligament under the feet to get rid of the adhesions in the soft tissue. After a series of sessions of this therapy, patients do report a considerable relief from the acute pain. These sessions are almost always performed in addition to extremity adjusting, where I evaluate the feet, knee and hip for misalignments and subluxations.

Additionally, as a sports chiropractor, I may also use Kinesiology Taping to provide relief to the patients with Plantar Fasciitis. Applying this tape on the affected area reduces the pressure on the Plantar Fascia (the ligament under the foot) and also supports the natural arch of your foot to facilitate walking, and even running. In turn, this helps increase range of motion and enhances the healing process.

Dr Abha Chopra is a Graston certified sports chiropractor, who may be the right person to turn to in the case of Plantar Fasciitis and other related issues. If you are suffering from a chronic foot pain, schedule an appointment at Chopra Chiropractic as soon as possible!
